Bharatanatyam is considered to be a fire-dance. It is one of the five major styles (one for each element) that include Odissi(element of water), Kuchipudi(element of earth), Mohiniattam(element of air) and Kathakali(element of sky). Bharatanatyam combines "Bhavam" meaning expression, "Ragam" meaning music, "Thalam" meaning rhythm and Natyam meaning dance.

Bharatanatyam " பரதநாட்டியம் " is a form of Indian classical dance that originated in Tamil Nadu.It is known for its grace, elegance, purity, tenderness, expression and sculpture poses.Lord Shiva as Nataraja is considered the god of this dance.

The music of Bharatanatyam is based on Carnatic classical style with Indian musical instruments such as the Veena, Flute, Mridangam and Violin. The dance direction is done by ‘Nattuvanar’ giving the Thaalam using hand symbols and singing ‘Vaaythari’. There could be two singers also.

Sri Natiyalaiya conducts weekday classes and weekend classes.

Classes are grouped according to the ability of the students, with sessions for beginners, intermediates, and advanced students. There are no terms or semesters; students may advance to the next level class at any time during the year, based on their ability. Class sizes are kept small. This ensures personal attention from the teacher; the teacher is aware when a student is ready to advance.

The classes typically focus on Bharatanatyam, as it requires a more training. A portion of the time is spent, so that beginners can learn dance that they can perform relatively soon. Students may choose to learn just folk dances. There is only one such session now, but we're condsidering making more available depending on interest
